This week, Helen and I
had planned to be helping Don Enrique and others
with the vacation Bible school at Solidaridad.
However, one thing we have learned this past year is
that our plans aren't always the Lord's plans.
We had planned to
pick-up our niece, Abi Kloetzli, last Wednesday at
the airport in Harlingen, Texas and travel to
Tampico, Mexico, with her on Thursday. We would
then travel to Valles and spend the week helping
with VBS before returning to the States. While in
Valles and Solidaridad, we would take care of
funding for the breakfast program for several
months, check on the chicken business, buy school
clothes for the children, and begin planning for
starting a library in Solidaridad.
The plan was going good
until Wednesday evening when we talked on the phone
with both of our sons, Mike and Brad. We learned
that both of them were having health problems.
Being out of the country when we felt we needed to
be with them put a cloud over the rest of the
plans.
Thursday found us in the
bus heading from Reynosa to Tampico feeling like we
should be in California with the boys and also
feeling that we needed to get the support to Enrique
and the children of Solidaridad. About two-thirds
of the way to Tampico, we decided that we could get
most of the work done with Enrique and then turn
right around and head back for Texas. Using our
Mexican cell phone we made arrangements for Abi to
fly back to Maryland on Sunday and the plans changed
drastically. We returned to Texas last Saturday.
While in Mexico we spent
a busy day with Enrique getting all the work done
except for the VBS.
At this time I'm writing
from Sacramento and can report that our sons are
both doing better. Tomorrow Brad will have a biopsy
and depending on the results of that test we'll know
how soon we'll be traveling back to Florida. In the
meantime, I have some good and interesting things to
report on the short time we did spend at Solidaridad.
You'll be reading these reports in emails that I'll
be sending to you soon.
