News from Solidaridad, 7 October
2005 |
In my last email with "News
from Solidaridad," I wrote about the report from Enrique that there
was a lot of "dengue" fever (that's how Enrique spells it) in the
area of Solidaridad and that he had been able to use some of the
profits from the chicken business to buy supplements for the
breakfast program and disinfectants for the homes. At that time, he
said that no one from the mission had gotten "dengue."
This week the report
wasn't as good. It seems that "dengue" fever is carried by
mosquitoes. The wet and hot weather in the area around Solidaridad
has resulted in a lot of mosquitoes this year. Carmen, the woman
who runs the chicken business has been sick with "dengue" and has
not been able to take care of the chickens for a couple of weeks.
Enrique has also reported that 52 of the children who eat breakfast
at the mission have gotten sick. However, he reports that they are
all getting better. He attributes their quick recovery to the
vitamins and "syrup" that he has been giving them with the
breakfasts. He also reports that the government is spraying for the
mosquitoes, but that the weather is still wet and hot and mosquitoes
are still a problem.
Please pray for
Enrique and the children of Solidaridad. As several of you wrote
after my last email, denge fever can be very serious. We thank the
Lord that so far all of the children have gotten better, but from
what he wrote, the problem isn't over yet.
