Sharon and I are so excited to serve the Church family here at
Chapel. We truly feel blessed to join such a loving church family—one that
deeply desires to glorify God in all things. Intertwined amongst our
excitement, however, is a reverent fear for the daunting task ahead of us in
leading Junior and Senior High students unto the path of righteousness.
Youth
ministry is a challenging vocation. The average youth minister in America lasts
approximately ten months in most churches. This is a shocking average,
and although Sharon and I will be with you much longer, we understand the fast
changing tides of youth ministry that cause such a sudden burnout for those
called to their aid. With teen pregnancy, drug addiction, and the theology of
relevance permeating the minds and lives of our youth, it is obvious that youth
ministry is a front-lines battle, and we must be prepared for the mission.
As a
church body, we have been extremely blessed by the dedicated love Charlie
and Coco have given our youth for the past six years. They’ve laid a wonderful
foundation upon which we hope to continue to build God’s kingdom, and despite
the sober fears of what lies ahead, we are confident that the Lord will provide
everything we need during the construction!
Please
pray that God will continue to work in the hearts of our youth—that they will
all be, in the words of Brooks Pipher, “South Beach Grommets Stoked for Jesus!”
It is the heartfelt prayer of Sharon and I that we, as a couple and as a church
family, can truly be a Beacon of Light for those living in darkness.
Ephesians 3:21 has been a favorite Bible
verse for us since our marriage two years ago. Since the day the Lord brought
us together He has done so much more than we can “think or imagine.” We know
that the Lord is still doing that for us and through us by allowing us to join
the fellowship of believers at Chapel. Thank you so much for your warm welcome
and hospitality. We look forward to being the newest members of your family.
For His Glory,
John
